My husband and I were getting ready to go out for dinner, so we let our cat outside while we waited for our Uber. Just as we were about to leave, she suddenly bolted back into the house. My husband quickly ran inside to catch her.<\/p>\n

Not wanting the driver to assume the house was empty, I awkwardly told him, \u201cHe\u2019ll be right back\u2026 he\u2019s just saying goodbye to my mother inside.\u201d<\/p>\n

A moment later, my husband came rushing out, slightly out of breath, and explained what had happened without thinking:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was hiding under the bed. I had to get her out with a hanger, grab her, wrap her up, and toss her outside so she wouldn\u2019t run off again.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was a brief silence in the car.<\/p>\n

In the rearview mirror, I saw the driver slowly glance at me.<\/p>\n

And in that instant, I realized my innocent little explanation had taken on a very unfortunate meaning\u2014one that suddenly made my \u201cmother\u201d sound like she was definitely not okay.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
