When I returned to my childhood home, a wave of memories hit me the moment I stepped out of the car. The house looked a bit more worn than I remembered, yet still familiar, carrying the scent of aged wood and the garden my mother once tended with care.<\/p>\n

My mother, Susan, and I had never been particularly close. She was strong-willed, easily angered, and often difficult to talk to, so over time, I kept my distance. Recently, however, her health had begun to decline, and after the death of our neighbor Jeremy, she unexpectedly agreed to move closer to me.<\/p>\n

Driven by curiosity, I waited until my mother was upstairs packing, then walked over to Jeremy\u2019s now-empty house. Everything inside felt silent and abandoned. Upstairs in his room, I discovered a small, dust-covered box marked: \u201cFor Lisa.\u201d<\/p>\n

My heart pounded as I opened it.<\/p>\n

Inside were old photographs, letters, and a worn journal. One image froze me in place\u2014my mother and Jeremy, young and smiling, holding each other as if deeply in love.<\/p>\n
