I used to believe danger was obvious\u2014something loud and undeniable. Bruises, shouting, sirens in the street. But I\u2019ve learned it often hides in plain sight, behind polite smiles, quiet homes, and carefully practiced normality.<\/p>\n

There was a young woman in our neighborhood named Lynn. She always kept her eyes lowered when she walked. Her husband never seemed violent in public, yet there was something unsettling in the way she reacted to him\u2014the way she tensed at his voice, as if bracing for punishment no one else could see. She constantly apologized, even when she had done nothing wrong.<\/p>\n
