The couple contributed millions of dollars to the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, enabling the organization to erase about $550 million<\/strong> in medical debt for more than 261,000 California residents<\/strong>. Eligible recipients are receiving letters informing them that their qualifying debt has been permanently canceled\u2014no application or additional steps are required.<\/p>\n The relief is reaching communities across the state. In San Diego County<\/strong>, more than 40,000<\/strong> residents have had nearly $99 million<\/strong> in medical debt forgiven. Los Angeles County<\/strong> has also seen substantial benefits, with approximately $26.7 million<\/strong> in debt eliminated for more than 17,000<\/strong> people.
