Political Leaders React After ICU Nurse Alex Pretti Is Killed During Border Patrol Clash in Minneapolis

The fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis sparked immediate outrage from both the public and political leaders across Minnesota.

Governor Tim Walz condemned the operation as a “campaign of organized brutality,” arguing that the investigation into Pretti’s death should remain under state authority rather than federal control.

Jacob Frey echoed those concerns, criticizing the deployment of heavily armed federal agents as excessive and dangerous while calling for ICE to withdraw from the city altogether.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump defended the federal agents, accusing local and state officials of weak leadership and claiming they were fueling unrest while distracting from unrelated political issues.

As political tensions escalated, protests and candlelight vigils spread throughout Minneapolis, reflecting growing public anger and anxiety over aggressive federal enforcement tactics.

Pretti’s family released an emotional tribute describing him as a compassionate ICU nurse devoted to caring for veterans, passionate about nature, and deeply committed to protecting both people and the environment.

His parents stressed that he was unarmed at the time of the shooting, holding only a cellphone while attempting to help a woman who had allegedly been pushed by officers. Federal authorities claimed he possessed a firearm, though video footage shared by bystanders reportedly showed no visible weapon.

A U.S. citizen with no criminal record, Pretti died at the scene, leaving family members, coworkers, and supporters grieving. His death has since become a focal point in the national debate surrounding immigration enforcement, police authority, and the dangers tied to public protest
