I found a hidden camera inside the Airbnb we were staying in, and when I reached out to the host to report it, their reaction left me deeply uneasy and disturbed.

During a stay at an Airbnb, the narrator’s wife first noticed a small, unusual blinking light coming from a smoke detector. At first it seemed harmless, but when he examined it more closely, he realized something disturbing—it appeared to be a hidden camera lens.

Alarmed, they immediately packed their belongings and left the property without hesitation, not stopping until they were far away in another town. Still shaken, they stopped at a late-night diner, where the narrator quickly wrote a warning review online to alert other guests.

Almost instantly, the host responded—but instead of offering reassurance or an apology, their message only made things worse. They insisted the device was a “security transmitter” and warned that “they will come looking for it,” which deepened the couple’s fear and confusion.

When the narrator reviewed the photos he had taken, he noticed something even more unsettling—a faint red light behind a curtain, suggesting the possibility of additional surveillance. It gave the impression that the entire space may have been monitored.

Fearing they were not safe, they continued driving, eventually checking into a hotel in a larger city. They also disposed of the burner phone used for the booking. The following day, they filed a police report, though it did little to calm their nerves.

That night, unable to sleep, the narrator was left with a troubling realization: even places that seem normal and trustworthy can hide disturbing secrets, and online listings don’t always guarantee true safety.
