When I was sixteen, I was certain I had already met the person I would spend the rest of my life with.
Aaron had been there through some of the hardest moments I had ever faced. He held me together when I felt overwhelmed, celebrated every achievement with me, and stayed by my side as we slowly grew from teenagers into adults.
To everyone around us, our future seemed obvious. Marriage felt like the natural next chapter. Some of our friends were even surprised that we had waited so long.
But I never pressured Aaron.
Whenever I mentioned getting married or talked about our future, he always reassured me that he wanted to make sure everything was right before taking that step.
So I waited.
Years passed.
Friends we had grown up with started getting engaged, walking down the aisle, having children, and building lives of their own. Meanwhile, Aaron and I continued moving forward together, just at our own pace.
Then, after fifteen years together, he finally proposed.
I broke down in tears.
They were the happiest tears I had ever cried.
All the doubts and uncertainty I had carried over the years seemed to disappear in that single moment. Suddenly, every year I had spent waiting felt completely worth it.
We had a small, beautiful wedding surrounded by our closest family and friends—many of whom had watched our relationship grow since we were teenagers in high school.
Standing beside Aaron that day, I felt more certain than ever about my future.
I honestly believed the dream I had carried since I was sixteen had finally come true.
I thought I had found my happily ever after.
