Three months after giving birth to our third son, I was still recovering when my husband, Charles, began criticizing my appearance. Instead of offering support, he mocked my weight and admitted he was embarrassed to be seen with me.
When he received an invitation to his 20-year high school reunion, I assumed we would attend together. Instead, he told me he had hired a young actress to pose as his wife because he wanted to impress his former classmates. Heartbroken, I stayed home with our children while he left with the actress.
That evening, Charles’s father stopped by to repair our kitchen sink. When he learned what had happened, he was shocked and promised to handle the situation himself.
At the reunion, Charles’s father took the microphone and exposed the truth, revealing that his son had abandoned his wife and newborn to attend the event with a hired actress. In front of everyone, he praised me for my strength and condemned Charles’s cruel behavior.
Humiliated, Charles rushed home furious, blaming me for his embarrassment. But I calmly packed his suitcase and told him our marriage was over. I realized I deserved respect, not humiliation, and refused to accept his cruelty any longer. I asked him to leave, closed the door behind him, and returned upstairs to read bedtime stories to our sons, finally choosing my own dignity over his approval.
