Often praised as one of the most gifted yet underappreciated actors of his generation, James Spader has built an impressive career while keeping his personal life remarkably private. Now 65, the former ’80s heartthrob continues to work in the entertainment industry but prefers a simple, low-profile lifestyle far from Hollywood’s constant attention.

Following the end of his marriage to Victoria Kheel in 2004, he began a relationship with actress and sculptor Leslie Stefanson, whom he met while working on the science-fiction film Alien Hunter. The couple later welcomed their son, Nathaneal Spader, in 2008 and settled in New York City.
Becoming a father again later in life gave Spader a new perspective. He has said that while parenting in his late forties came with less energy than before, it also brought a greater appreciation for family and made time with his children even more meaningful.
During the pandemic, he found happiness in simple activities, including spending afternoons outdoors with his youngest son shooting at empty cans with BB guns in the backyard.

One of Spader’s most widely shared public appearances came in 2023 while filming The Blacklist in New York. Then, in 2025, he surprised fans when he attended actress Tara Summers’ wedding in Morocco, where many noticed how much his appearance had changed over the years.
